VoIP solutions drive telephony market
11/07/08
The global
telephony market is now increasingly dominated by VoIP solutions,
according to a new study by Frost & Sullivan that shows IP lines
made up 71% of the 48.4 million lines shipped in 2007. Total line
shipments in 2013 are predicted to be 62.1m.
Though sites with no existing network capabilities are moving
straight to VoIP solutions, replacement for existing systems is
still the biggest trigger for deployment in the market.
Elka Popova, unified communications program director at Frost &
Sullivan says that rReplacement continues to be the main driver for
market growth and, more specifically, IP telephony adoption.
Europe, Middle East and Africa was found to still be the biggest
region in the worldwide market.
A separate report by JupiterResearch predicts that the number of
lines in the US broadband telephony market will reach 28.4 million
in 2013 – the number in 2007 was 14.7 million.
